Freddy Obando
Vice President, Fuels and LNG
With 20 years of expertise in the power and gas markets, Freddy serves as the AES Chief Commercial Officer for the Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean (MCAC) SBU.
Freddy leads the commercial activity in the AES MCAC region for existing assets and commercialization of new projects to support growth. The commercial area manages the sales of the associated production of more than 4,000 GW of AES conventional, hydro and renewable assets in Central America and the Caribbean, through the development of a portfolio of utilities and private customers with innovative structures, new products and solutions, including LNG supply, to help our customers reach their energy goals.
During his tenure at AES, he has overseen the development of AES portfolio of natural gas and LNG clients, and actively participated in important projects that has shaped our business in the MCAC region. These projects include the DPP Combined Cycle Project, the Eastern Pipeline and our successful gas business. While promoting the use of the new fuel across the island and the Caribbean, Freddy has been instrumental in AES' extraordinary achievements in the transformation of the energy matrixes to be cleaner and more resilient in the Dominican Republic and Panamá.
Freddy holds an Executive MBA from Barna Bussines School. With prestigious scholarships, he took specialized postgraduate courses in power and gas markets in both Spain and Argentina. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Freddy has represented the generation companies in the Dominican Republic Independent System Operator and regularly serves as an expert speaker in international energy conferences.
Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, he is married and has two daughters and a little maltese dog named Lola. Currently residing in Panama, he and his family enjoy travelling through the region and getting to know the territory and the people of different cultures.
